Brunello
Winemaker’s Notes:
The best grapes of the Podere Sanlorenzo and a perfect blending of territory, vineyard and cellar give birth to Bramante, a tasteful, refined and intense Brunello that expresses its best in time.
Our Tasting Notes:
We decanted this wine and let it air out before and during dinner which I think allowed it to open significantly. The coloring of the wine was a deep ruby with a maroon tint, rather than purple, similar to the coloring of a pinot noir, but much darker throughout. Upon initial inspection I thought it was lacking legs, but with some closer examination I realized that the legs were actually very heavy and they didn’t fall immediately, but rather stalled for a moment after swirling and then gracefully descended back towards the bottom of the glass at a slow and steady pace. The ripe tannins were the first thing I noticed upon tasting the wine and the spicy notes associated with them made it very flavorful. The flavor was heavy, but crisp (did not leave an after-taste) with a hint of peppers, berries and pine. I think this wine could last another 10 years in the bottle and possibly smooth out with age as it did a bit with air during the evening.
